 | Jutta Heim and Olli Kallioniemi Join PamGene's Scientific Board | | | s-Hertogenbosch, 7 February 2003. PamGene International B.V. is pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Jutta Heim and Prof. Dr. Olli Kallioniemi have agreed to join PamGenes Scientific Board. Prof. Dr. Heim and Prof. Dr. Kallioniemi are both renowned and respected experts in their field and will certainly be of great value to give scientific direction for new applications for PamGenes 5D-Pulse microarray technology. About her reasons to join, Prof. Dr. Heim said the following: "The challenges of the postgenome area are multifold. The enormous increase in exploitable targets requires nanotechnologies and multiplexing of reactions to cope with the needed throughput. Technological progress as well as its scientific application can not be done in isolation and requires extensive alignment and partnering of fully integrated companies with smaller more specialised partners. I am very pleased to serve on the scientific advisory board of Pamgene to help in bringing its fantastic microarray platform closer to its customers and to scientific fruition." Prof. Dr. Kallioniemi explained his personal reasons as follows: "In my role as a new scientific advisor to PamGene, I have come to appreciate the fact that the company has a simple, yet highly versatile and very powerful technology platform. Just add content, applications, and a great PamGene team to develop these, and you will get tremendously valuable products facilitating scientific research and pharmaceutical R&D." With these two new additions, PamGenes Scientific Board consists of 4 members: Prof. Dr. Torben Orntoft, Professor of Clinical Biochemistry in Aarhus Denmark and CEO of AROS Biotechnology AS; Dr. Julie Fox, Senior lecturer at the University of Calgary, Canada; Prof. Dr. Jutta Heim and Prof. Dr. Olli Kallionimie. About Prof. Heim: Jutta Heim has a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Tuebingen, Germany, followed by postdoctoral training and sabbaticals at Rockefeller University, MIT and Harvard/Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Currently, she is heading the Lead Discovery Center of Novartis AG in Basel, Switzerland. About Prof. Kallioniemi: Olli Kallioniemi is Professor of Medical Biotechnology at the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. Prof. Kallioniemi is is well-known for his work on the development of technologies, such as comparative genomic hybridisation (CGH) as well as tissue and cell arrays. Prof. Kallioniemi is an expert in the area of translational genomics, biochip research and oncology. He holds 11 patents, is an author of 183 publications and is one of the most highly cited scientists in his field Prior to his recent move to Finland, Prof. Kallioniemi was Head of the Translational Genomics Branch at the National Human Genome Research Institute at NIH in Bethesda, USA.
