Jean Deleage Succeeds Piet Strijkert as Chairman of PamGene

’s-Hertogenbosch (The Netherlands), June 11, 2003. Dutch biotechnology company PamGene International B.V. announced today the retirement of Mr. Pieter Strijkert as Chairman of PamGene’s Supervisory Board. PamGene further announced that Mr Strijkert will be succeeded ad-interim in this position by Jean Deleage, member of the board since December 2000.

Mr. Strijkert was Chairman of the Board since February 2000 and played a substantial role in the start and development of PamGene. Mr. Strijkert still serves as member of the boards of the US based companies Chiron Corp. and ParaTek Pharmaceuticals, as well as chairing the supervisory Board of Crucell B.V., a Dutch Biotech company. His professional career included positions with Philips Eindhoven, the Erasmus University Rotterdam and Gist brocades NV, where he served as a member of the Board of Management.

Mr. Jean Deleage is a Board Member since December 2000. Mr. Deleage has been a managing general partner and a founding member of Alta Partners since 1996. From 1979 to 1996, Mr. Deleage was a managing partner of Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co. Previously, he was a founding member of Sofinnova S.A. and in 1976 formed and became president of Sofinnova Inc. In the last 30 years, he has been one of the most active venture investors in the biotechnology industry, in the United States and in Europe. Mr. Deleage serves on the boards of Kosan Bioscience Inc., Crucell NV, Rigel Inc. and several private companies. Mr. Deleage has a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Ecole Supérieure d'Electricité and a Ph.D. in Economics from the Sorbonne.
