Gerald Dekker, chairman of the jury, presented the price to Tim Kievits, CEO of PamGene. The Andersen Biotechnology Group aims to support starting biotech companies in The Netherlands and Belgium through this initiative.

Important criteria for the jury were an innovative product or concept generating revenues within 2-3 years protected by a strong intellectual property position. The jury also looked into the business models and marketing strategies of the fifteen companies in the competition.

The jury consisted of:
- Gerald M. Dekker RA; responsible for the Biotechnology Group in The Netherlands;

The jury has chosen PamGene as the winner because of its proven patented technology that can be marketed in the short term. Also the partnerships with several European research institutes and Japanese Olympus played a significant role in the decision.
