1 Personalized Medicine
Personalized medicine refers to tailoring of medical treatment to the individual characteristics of each patient. This next level in disease treatment decision making is based on the new concept of targeted medicine: drugs that address the molecular cause of the disease. Targeted medicine approaches are made possible by increasing insights into what causes a disease at a molecular level and which patient characteristics predict a better response to the therapy. This detailed scientific knowledge opens the door to development of companion tests that can help to select the patients that will benefit most from therapy.
Personalized medicine holds the promise for a more efficient healthcare system.
Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology companies are adopting Personalized medicine.
PamGene believes that medicines should ideally be administered to a specific patient once the likely effectiveness of that drug for that person has been assessed. In this way, more of these novel targeted drugs can be made widely available to the general public at a reasonable cost to healthcare systems.
2 Matching Medicines
Matching Medicines is PamGene’s biomarker technology tests for the effect of medicines on samples taken from individual patient samples. The test is performed before the medicine is administered and involves not only testing for protein characteristics of the patient but also the functional interaction of the medicine and those proteins. This new way of testing has shaped our vision of where the Personalized medicine concept eventually can go. We have called this our Matching Medicines approach, 3 versions of which are described here below.
- Matched biomarkers
Supporting pharma-driven biomarker discovery, translational medicine and clinical trials with new chemical entities (NCEs)
- Matched population
Recovery of failed drugs or drugs that were not accepted by the healthcare system on the basis of a cost- effectiveness assessment
- Matched differentiation
Commercial positioning of new targeted drugs
3. PamGene
You have so many choices: why work with PamGene?
PamGene’s team has a unique and rarely found combined set of skills. We have not been hampered by acquisitions, mergers or reorganization and our team has been very stable over the years, continually learning from our partners in scientific institutions, hospitals and industry.
Besides that:
- PamGene was spun out of a diagnostic company in 2000
- PamGene’s team understands the complexity of the drug development process.
- PamGene’s work evidence-based with great scientific support.
PamGene’s biomarkers give your drug a unique competitive position by monitoring the specific effects of the drug on patients’ kinases, thereby delivering a handshake fit with the companion diagnostic test. This is in contrast to Nucleic Acid tests and Immunohistochemistry tests that only show that a particular mutation or a particular cell receptor is present. While such tests provide very relevant information for whole classes of drugs targeting the same molecules, PamGene’s biomarkers give a much more detailed match to the individual drug, which can be a beneficial competitive feature.
4. Becoming part of PamGene’s network
How to work with PamGene?
What is the process flow of the biomarker discovery work?
How will the test eventually be commercialized in phase IV?
PamGene’s management can be easily reached to discuss the terms and conditions for such a project.
